Wired on Wireless Internet - Technology Addiction?

Alcohol Abuse Counseling Near Me

He lives in Bali, on the Indonesian island. He suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. His particular obsession is glass. More accurately, broken glass.

Should he break a glass, then he writes down in a special notebook, the exact time he broke it, the hour, day, month and year, what type of glass it was. He double checks all this information with the utmost care and only when he's completely satisfied, does he close his notebook and put it away.

Recording broken glass is far from his only obsession. He must know the name of every person who passes his house, and if he sees dead chickens lying along the road, he must visit them and inspect them in the most minute detail. If he fails to find the name of someone who has passed his house, his obsession is so strong that he wants to commit suicide.

The terrible tragedy is that his condition is completely ignored, as is that of people with other mental illnesses. He works for the Government, but receives no help from them for his crippling condition.

There are healers to whom he can go. One of them told him that he was the victim of black magic. The cure was to give him a gold amulet, imbued with white magic, and he had to undergo a purification ceremony. As may be expected, these treatments left him feeling no better.

Researchers are studying the ways in which mental illness in general affects people in other countries. For instance, the OCD suffered by this man is totally different from that of an American. It's vital to know the culture of the patient you're treating.

If a native from the island of Tonga walks into the psychiatrist's waiting room, it's no good whatever for the doctor to treat him in the same way as he would a Westerner. Supposing the patient comes from a land where demons seem to reign supreme and are all-powerful. To Western eyes, the poor man would appear to be psychotic, but perfectly normal in his own country, where he's fighting real demons.

As I've pointed out, OCD varies from country to country. In the West, cleanliness seems to be a major problem, whereas in the Middle East, the observance of religious ritual is of vital importance. Another Western fear is that the person with OCD will commit some terrible sexual act. In effect, they need to be guarded against themselves.

It's estimated that around 3 million Americans suffer from OCD. These 'rituals' that victims of OCD put themselves through; repeated hand-washing, or hoarding useless items, are found mainly in the West.

The key is to try to join the meanings of OCD and other mental illnesses from the West to other countries.

Derealization (DR) is an alteration in the perception or experience of the external world so that it seems strange or unreal. (This definition is from Wikipedia (tm)).

Sometimes when we experience a traumatic event, we may develop derealization and in the brain's attempt to cope with this new perception and shock, we may develop OCD as a way of coping and dealing with our new angle of perception.

The derealization may go away, but the OCD may remain. So it must be dealt with as a normal case of OCD. Even if the derealization is from a neurological disorder or some other physical disorder, that should be treated as a separate case and the OCD also as a separate case.

One you have seen your doctor and found out what the cause and treatment should be for your derealization, then you should seek help for the OCD that may or may not have been caused by your derealization.

You must now still stop performing rituals, go through the anxiety of not performing them and repeat the process until you get stronger at not performing rituals.

It's important that whenever you have a condition besides OCD, that that be taken care of so that your recovery over OCD can be made much easier.

Take action: Today is a good day to make an appointment with your doctor and get some answers on your derealization. Find out if you have anything physical that could be contributing to your OCD. Get a treatment plan to take care of that issue if there is one. If not, work direction on the OCD and find out how to become OCD free. That should be the bulk of your research, not on about the condition, but how to get rid of it, how to be cured of it.

Smoking cessation is also a big task like any other type of addiction, so you have to majorly help the patient in it and never discourage them from getting away from addiction. You can even help them with simple words that motivate them towards the positive and leave addiction, which is in all cases a negative thing to practice. There are so many other ways of helping such people, but you have to be patient with them in this case. Any type of forceful action can take them even deeper into the addiction problem, so you have to tackle this problem in a very sensible way. For doctors, it is an easy task because they know the protocols, but generally the friends and family must take good care of the situation if they know that the patient is going through the addiction phase.

Substance Abuse In The Workplace

Alcohol abuse effects can be far-reaching and devastating. The effects of alcohol abuse not only have consequences for the drinker but those around her or him as well. Alcohol abuse effects can be both psychological and physical. Alcohol consumption causes changes in behavior. The physical effects of alcohol abuse can be experienced with as little as one or two drinks -- impaired judgment and coordination needed to operate a car safely may result in the drinker having an accident.

Alcoholism is an illness where alcoholic beverage consumption is at a level that interferes with the person's health and negatively impacts social, family or occupational responsibilities. Alcohol abusers are drinkers that may drink excessively at various times with resulting immediate alcohol abuse effects at the time of excess alcohol consumption.
The immediate physical effects of alcohol abuse can be experienced as soon as ten minutes after drinking begins. With continued alcohol consumption on that occasion, the immediate effects of alcohol abuse worsen and become more serious.

Here are five of the immediate physical alcohol abuse effects:

1. Inhibitions Become Reduced - at a blood alcohol concentration of 0.05, changes in a person's behavior begins to be noticeable. Alcohol abuse effects and reduced inhibitions can put a person at higher risk for actions they would otherwise not participate in, such as sexual activity, continued drinking or illegal drug use.

2. Loss of Muscle Control - at the level of 0.10, slurred speech will likely be evident. Impaired judgement and poor coordination are physical effects of alcohol abuse that can lead to falls and accidents.

3. Memory Loss and/or Blackouts - since alcohol depresses the brain's control mechanisms, as blood alcohol levels increase, periods of time and certain situations and events may not be remembered afterward.

4. Stupor - at a blood alcohol concentration of 0.40, a person can hardly function, acting seriously dazed, disoriented and confused.

5. Coma - at a blood alcohol level of 0.50, a person is at risk for coma, which can be life-threatening. And at this level or higher, respiratory paralysis and death become very much a possibility.

Other alcohol abuse effects that are short-term include nausea, hangovers, headaches and fatigue. The longer a person abuses alcohol over time, the higher the chances of other alcohol abuse effects being experienced and alcohol dependency developing. The most severe form of alcoholism is 'alcohol dependency'. Physical alcohol dependence is characterized by withdrawal symptoms when alcohol consumption is interrupted, by tolerance to the effects of alcohol abuse and by the presence of alcohol-related illnesses.

Malnutrition can develop from a reduced appetite plus inadequate absorption of nutrients in the intestinal tract and from consuming 'empty' calories in alcohol. Calories from alcohol are called 'empty' calories since alcohol contains no beneficial nutrients, vitamins or minerals.

And with continued alcohol consumption and abuse over years, many of the body organs will be affected. Alcohol is especially harmful to the liver since the liver does most of the work of breaking down alcohol. Alcohol destroys liver cells, and it destroys the ability of liver cells to regenerate. This condition leads to progressive imflammatory injury to the liver and eventually can result in cirrhosis of the liver.

Additional long term alcohol abuse effects include damage to the brain, high blood pressure, heart muscle damage, nerve damage, pancreatitis, bleeding in the esophagus, erectile dysfunction in men, fetal alcohol syndrome in the offspring of alcoholic women, insomnia, depression and increased cancer risks.

If you or someone you know may have problems with alcohol and you'd like to learn more about alcoholism and perhaps seek help, there are proven resources available. It is never too late to begin recovery from alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse effects.

Obsessive Compulsive Spectrum Disorder

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD usually fall at the extreme ends of the neurochemical spectrum, of which, in each case, one disorder should not come along the other. However, there where recorded instances when ADHD and OCD did comorbid or occur along with the other, sharing the same degree of severity and meeting at certain similarities. While both disorders are believed to be cause by biochemical imbalances in regions of the brain such ass the prefrontal cortex.

The biochemical imbalance in the prefrontal cortex happens when the level of dopamine or the free signaling neurotransmitter of the brain is lower in the region compared to other regions of the brain. This same condition has been recorded for all OCD and ADHD sufferers. Furthermore, it was observed that a reduction in blood circulation through the prefrontal cortex occurs in the brains of ADHD and OCD sufferers.

Since the prefrontal cortex serves as the region where the brain processes the control of behavior in lieu to the inhibitory judgments he or she makes, any amount of abnormalities in the brain can result to a malfunction. With low blood flow, brain activity is likely to reduce, coupled with the neurotransmitters sending distorted signals, the individual's ability to discern between what makes sense and what is irrational or his ability to inhibit himself or herself from doing unwanted responses and behaviors. In both cases then, whether ADHD or OCD, impulsive behavior is very likely.

Furthermore, for OCD sufferers, the prefrontal cortex shows the lack of underactivity, on the contrary, the prefrontal activity for OCD sufferers is thought to undergo overactivity, thus the obsession towards the thought. Here are other differences between ADHD and OCD:

- Glutamate which is a type of an amino acid is produced by the glutamatergic system. Both ADHD and OCD are thought to be associated with this system, differing only to the extent the glutamatergic activity is occurring. For ADHD is believed that the activity of the glutamatergic system is less than what is normal, this is conveniently referred to as hypnoglutamatergic disorder. In contrary, in OCD, hyperglutamateric disorder occurs, or the opposite of the previously discussed glutamatergic activity.

- In both ADHD and OCD, the cortivo-striato-thalamo-cortical region of the brain manifests the most irregular patterns. This goes to imply that there is really potential that despite being extremes of one another, there will be cases wherein both simultaneously occur. While gender also plays a role in defining the metabolic activities in the brain, no clearer proof has been established that gender will spell a big difference in terms of the extent of disturbances in this region between both sexes.

Experts still continue to work hard in order to establish the distinct causes of ADHD and OCD. But up until this point, the most the experts can offer is treatment from these disorders, while the cure is still not close from being discovered.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder - Obsessed With Cleaning

Obsessive Compulsive Spectrum Disorder

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a relatively new diagnosis in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual). This condition may be classified as a mental illness that includes obsessions followed by ritualistic behaviors. You can stop OCD behavior through psychological interventions, medications or self-hypnosis.

Obsession in Thoughts

Obsession is all encompassing for many people who have OCD. This is especially problematic because the obsession is in the thought processes. The person who has OCD runs the same patterns of thought through the mind like an addiction.

The thought pattern is uncomfortable and the individual feels and intense desire to quell it. This produces very strong urges to stop the process in the mind. The images in the brain take over and it is difficult to focus on anything else.

Compulsive Actions

In order to quell the disturbing thoughts, the individual tries a series of ritualistic behaviors to quiet the inner voice. This behavior is highly repetitive by nature and it spins out of control because the urge to quell the pattern of thoughts is so strong.

You may recognize some of the behaviors like excessively washing hands. Other examples include driving back home to make sure that the stove is turned off repeatedly. Some rituals are nonsensical like avoiding cracks in a sidewalk but they serve the purpose of putting the mind at ease.

Obsession is not voluntary and a person with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is automatically bombarded with the thoughts and images constantly. The ritualistic behaviors stop the thinking pattern briefly but the thoughts flood back soon after.

Cognitive Therapy and Medication

Medication can treat OCD behaviors and this approach works for many people. However, this is not treating the source of the problem. The medicine should be complemented with a viable psychological program. Cognitive therapy is a wonderful approach for treating this condition.

Since the problem is deeply rooted in thoughts, cognitive therapy is ideal. This form of therapy addresses the thought processes that are obsessed and repetitive. This direct approach works well but it is very time consuming if it is not complemented by hypnosis.

Self Hypnosis and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Self-hypnosis is the ideal complement to cognitive therapy because it also works with the mind. However, this approach works with the subconscious mind. This is the habit center of the mind. We develop our routines through this realm because they are automatic and do not require cognition.

If you are familiar with the phrase "going through the motions" you can get a sense of how the compulsory habits work. They are automatic rituals that just seem to happen like when a nail biter find himself chewing on his nails.

When you use self-hypnosis to address the compulsions, you are going directly to the source. The mind is working on two levels and hypnosis reaches the subconscious while cognitive therapy works with the conscious mind. This combination is very effective in treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Addiction therapy can be tough to handle and manage when you are an addict. However, if you notice that you or your loved ones are at the early stage of addiction it is better to start the therapy. The earlier you will start better are the chances of improvement.

Compulsive Disorder - Is OCD Curable?

I Have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

How it can help with the treatment of patients so they will not get addicted again? Having friends and family, and even if you are the doctor of such a patient who is going through the addiction, you should help him in a simple way. Even simple exercising can help them get out of it because they will use their energies in something positive. When they are in need and couldn’t control themselves, you can simply give them pain killer to help them relax.

Smoking cessation is also a big task like any other type of addiction, so you have to majorly help the patient in it and never discourage them from getting away from addiction. You can even help them with simple words that motivate them towards the positive and leave addiction, which is in all cases a negative thing to practice. In this way, it becomes very easy for them to get rid of the bad habits.

Primarily Obsessional Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Are you obsessed with cleaning?

Do you wish that you could stop but every time you try you get major anxiety to the point where it is just unbearable and you break down and give in?

I know what it's like to feel like I have to do things that I know are ridiculous and that don't make any sense.

One thing that I learned over the years is that when we are obsessed with something that there is always a fear driving that obsession.

What is the fear that drives you to clean all the time?

Do you fear germs, do you fear that if something isn't clean you'll look bad, or that it makes you a bad person?

As humans our behavior is driven by two things, to avoid pain or to receive pleasure.

In the case of obsessions, it's usually driven by the avoiding pain part.

So now that you know that you are trying to avoid some pain, it's important to really think about what that pain is that you're trying to avoid.

Once you isolate that fear. Think about how you can face it. Really think about this and spend time pondering the different ways you can face this fear. Once you generate some ideas, it's time to put them into practice.

Here are some ideas that you can put into practice right now that will guide you along your way.

1.) refuse to perform the rituals and wait to see if the thing you fear happens or not no matter how major it may be.

2.) get medication from your doctor to help you deal with the anxiety while you go through this transition period.

3.) Get a buddy to help you. Not to be a crutch, but to challenge you to take action in facing your fears.

4.) Don't give into to saying, "I just don't have the will power or the strength, just do it.

Take action: Just take action, period.

Teenage Relationship Dangers - Alcohol Abuse

Alcohol Abuse Counseling Near Me

Cell phones have been around long enough by now that everyone at some point in their mobile life will run into a snag when they forget for a second just how fragile the tiny mobile devices are and make a mistake. This mistake can result in a cell phone, cracking its plastic case, breaking the LCD screen, ruining the touch pad or even damaging a few of the key features on the phone such as the video camera or the Bluetooth. Of course, there is also the ultimate snafu, the one that results in a cell phone getting completely submerged in water which never has a happy ending.

The ironic thing about an owning mobile phone is the fact that they are so easy to break despite the fact that people rarely handle them as such. Most people consider a mobile phone to be something they cannot live without since it keeps them in close contact with their entire professional and personal world with just the click of a button. With the addition of social networking capabilities and web browsers people are living their lives through the tiny virtual machines that allow them to connect to anyone anywhere for just a small price each month. Add in the fact that the gadgets work almost anywhere, and a cell phone is not an item that you can live without.

However, despite this constant dependence on mobile phones, people are yet to actually treat them as the highly sophisticated pieces of technology that they are. Video camcorders, laptops, and digital cameras are all items that people will carefully place in a padded bag, gently carry, and put away on a safe shelf once their use is no longer needed. Mobile phones on the other hand get tossed around from person to person, jammed into a purse next to dozens of other items including bottles with leaky lids from time to time, or tossed into a side pocket where they can be crushed or scratched with keys. It is for this reason that the field of broken cell phone repair has become a lucrative field.

While this can be good news for those who are trained at broken cell phone repair, this is bad news if you need to fix your broken cell phone because sometimes it can be just as costly to fix a broken phone as it is to repair it. The reason for this is due to the fact that your phone has so many features loaded into it every component must be handled separately and with a small margin for error. Add in the fact that there are not too many options when it comes to fixing your cell phone and you have the formula for an expensive repair.

Of course, if you have a more basic phone you may be able to get it repaired for less since there are not so many functions at stake, but nowadays even the simplest cell phones come loaded with a lot of extra features that can make fixing them still an expensive cost. Since the only other option is to purchase a new cell phone, most of the time you will have no other option but to shell out the money and hopefully learn your lesson for next time.

Obsessive Compulsive Schizophrenia

How to Stop OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

About Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

What causes Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?
There are a number of theories as to what lies beneath this troubling disorder. One prominent school of thought is that an anxiety disorder develops when children come to fear their own unconscious impulses and use defense mechanisms to lessen the resulting anxiety. What distinguishes obsessive-compulsive disorder from other anxiety disorders is that the battle between anxiety-provoking internal impulses and anxiety-reducing defense mechanisms is not buried in the unconscious but rather is played out in explicit and dramatic thoughts and actions. The internal impulses usually take the form of obsessive thoughts, and the defenses appear as counter-thoughts or compulsions.

Bridges to Recovery understands the suffering that goes on when an individual has this psychiatric disorder. Residential treatment in our community helps an individual learn to address the underlying issues. Individual therapy four times per week and regular visits with our staff psychiatrist are part of our clinical treatment approach. Learning to recognize the opportunities of time between impulsive thoughts and impulsive behaviors are part of the recovery process.

An excerpt from Macbeth...
Doctor: What is it she does now? Look how she rubs her hands.
Gentlewoman: It is an accustomed action with her, to seem thus washing her hands. I have known her to continue in this a quarter of an hour.
Lady Macbeth: Yet here's a spot. Out damned spot! Out I say!... Yet, who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him?" (Macbeth, Act V, Scene 1)

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by unwanted, tormenting, and persistent thoughts or ideas. The thoughts feel both intrusive and foreign to people that experience them. The thought may be offensive because it represents a blatant sexual or aggressive idea, or it may be neutral. Attempts to ignore or resist these thoughts may arouse even more anxiety, and before long they come back stronger than ever. In Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, obsessions are more than just thoughts; rather, they are impulses to perform some disturbing deed. Those suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder seldom act out their hostile or sexual fantasies, but they live in dread that they will. They are quite aware that their thoughts are excessive and inappropriate, yet they are experienced as repugnant and painful.

An excerpt from Spitzer
"He now spent hours each night 'rehashing' the day's events, especially interactions with friends and teachers, endlessly making 'right' in his mind any and all regrets. He likened the process to playing a videotape of each event over and over again in his mind, asking himself if he had behaved properly and telling himself that he had done his best, or had said the right thing every step of the way. He would do this while sitting at his desk, supposedly studying; and it was not unusual for him to look at the clock after such a period of rumination and note that, to his surprise, two or three hours had elapsed" (Spitzer et al., 1981, pp 20-21)

Compulsive actions are another component of this disabling syndrome. These are repetitive acts an individual feels compelled to carry out without understanding as to why. If you have ever left for a vacation and returned home to check if you had locked the front door or left the oven on, then you may have some insight into the relationship between an obsessive thought and a compulsive action. The behaviors, or "rituals", are often carried out in hopes of preventing or stopping the unwanted thoughts and reducing anxiety. Compulsive rituals only provide temporary relief, but not performing them dramatically increases anxiety. Common sources of anxiety for victims of OCD include being contaminated by germs or dirt, requiring the sufferer to wash repeatedly, incessant doubt requiring the person to check the locks, doors, and windows over and over, or a desire for order requiring straightening, the repetition of words, praying, or counting. These symptoms cause significant distress and interfere with daily life. Sufferers of OCD often realize that their behavior is excessive or unreasonable. But they are unable to stop them. This can make the suffering embarrassing and unbearable.

Here is an example which vividly conveys obsessive symptoms and their intimate connection to compulsive acts:
"Shirley K., a twenty three year old housewife, came to the clinic with a complaint of frequent attacks of headaches and dizziness. During the preceding three months she had been disturbed by recurring thoughts that she might harm her two year old son, Saul, either by stabbing or choking him [the obsessive thought]. She constantly had to go into his room, touch the baby, and feel him breathe in order to reassure herself that Saul was alive [the compulsive act]; otherwise, she became unbearably anxious. If she read a report in the daily paper of the murder of a child, she would become agitated, since this reinforced her fear that she too might act on her impulse. Shirley turned to the interviewer and asked, with desperation, whether this meant that she was 'going crazy' " (Goldstein and Palmer, 1975)

No matter how elaborate the complex of obsessive thoughts and compulsive rituals of the sufferer, they do not reduce anxiety. Most people suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder report constant tension and dissatisfaction with their lives, and it is not unusual for this dissatisfaction to blend imperceptibly into feelings of depression.

Example of an interview
Patient: If I heard the word, like, something that had to do with germs or disease, it would be considered something bad, and so I had things that would go through my mind that were sort of like "cross that out and it'll make it okay" to hear that word.
Interviewer: What sorts of things?
Patient: Like numbers or words that seemed to be sort of like a protector.
Interviewer: What numbers and words were they?
Patient: It started out to be the number 3 and multiples of 3 and then words like "soap and water", something like that; and then the multiples of 3 got really high, and they'd end up to be 124 or something like that. It got real bad then. (Spitzer et al., 1981, p. 137)

Even simple exercising can help them get out of it because they will use their energies in something positive. When they are in need and couldn’t control themselves, you can simply give them pain killer to help them relax.

What would it be like, to be able to control an obsession for chocolate? Take it up a notch and think about people seeking to control full-scale eating disorders, drug addiction, gambling, smoking, drinking... even compulsive shopping!

When "food becomes my comfort" and someone crushes the bathroom scales at morbidly obese levels, body image goals and eating disorders can easily morph into a full flowering of addictive compulsions. This person is psychologically armed and dangerous to themselves. The question is what can they do to regain control over these impulse disorders?

Filling an inner void typically involves the steady build-up of an obsessive compulsive drive. Self worth, body image and any number of ego-enhancing drives push a person into ritualized behavior, most of which aggravates rather than soothes the soul.

Weight loss surgery, bariatric surgery where up to 90% of the stomach is surgically tied off in order to limit food intake, would seem to be all about excess food and binge eating resulting in at-risk obesity. Yet, gastric bypass surgery is purely "mechanical" and doesn't deal with underlying neurological dependence issues.

However, deeper down in psychological space, other factors are at play, as new research into addictive behavior suggests. Thinking that their days of body image phobia and obesity are now over following weight loss surgery, perhaps 30% or more of men and women increasingly discover that something deeper remains, namely the drive towards any-and-all addictions. What's next? Drug abuse, alcoholism, gambling, over-the-top consumerism and compulsive shopping behavior.

Addiction Transfer - Where Eating Disorder Morphs Into Another Obsession. In the psychiatric theory spectrum with genetics (nature) on one end and behavior-reinforcement (nurture) on the other end, latest research news is that people with an "addictive" tendency keep it, re-dress it, but never entirely place it under wraps.

Weight loss surgery produces profound body shaping and body image transformations, yet "window dress" your body and the mind continues to seek other avenues for obsessive compulsive focus. In the case of bariatric surgery getting thin only creates a "re-direct" of the baseline impulse-control disorder into new areas where new urges and craving take over. Think of it. A person loses 200 pounds of built-up weight, then turns to drinking two bottles of whiskey a day!

Remedies Research - Altering Brain Neurology. Unlike shrimp and bovine cattle, humans possess nature's state-of-art brain. 4 million miles of nerve fibers and neurological horsepower to drive over 10 billion brain cells, each with as much as 25,000 synapse-connection to other cells. And so, what about gaining control over addictions, whether eating disorders like binge eating and anorexia, or gambling, or drug abuse?

* Bio-Chemical Intervention. Some research already reveals that certain classes of obsessive behavior, like binge eating disorders, associate with depressed levels of the regulating brain hormones serotonin and neuroepinephrine and dopamine. Increasing these hormones acts on the brain's neurological structure, effectively blocking certain receptor sites, altering bio-chemical messaging. Result? You get an immediate uptick in "feel good" sensations.

* Drug Addiction - Blocking Receptor Sites. When "addiction transfer" takes a person from body image obsessions to drug abuse, there's a risk of falling into equally life threatening addiction as with opiates. Fortunately, these addictions are being attacked using new neural receptor-blocking drugs such as suboxane. How does it work? The neural pathways associated with 'drug craving and pleasure' are traced by suboxone, which occupies these neural receptor sites, thus silencing the addictive craving, and bio-chemically road-blocking the site so that heroin cannot enter, thus renders it useless.

Treating Underlying Anxiety And Depression. Other mood altering drug classes are known as benzodiazepines, and are offered under brands including Xanax or Valium. For 70% of the population, these powerful drug mediators work to slow the drive towards addiction relief.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder - Derealization and OCD

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Psychotherapy

Primarily Obsessional Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Is obsessive compulsive disorder curable?

In a word, yes. Despite what you may have heard from wherever you heard it, you can cure obsessive compulsive disorder. The reason that I know this is because I have cured it in myself and in my clients. I've seen the proof first hand. One of the major reasons why people don't cure their OCD is because they don't believe they can.

You see, you have to first believe that you can do something before you can actually do it. You've got to have enough faith in yourself that you can achieve whatever you put your mind to. The problem is that people too often blindly take the word of other people as law. You cannot and should not do that! You should have an inquiring mind and ask questions for yourself.

Question what others tell you, question what I tell you! You seriously should explore knowledge about something for yourself before you blindly listen to others just because they have some initials after their name. One of my clients have told me that her therapist said that she was crazy in a past life and that is why she is suffering with OCD today!

Where did this therapist get her license? Seriously! The fact remains that therapists are not trained to help people get rid of obsessive compulsive disorder. In fact most of them never had it. A lot of doctors are limited likewise because they are only legally able to suggest drugs to you.

I once asked a pharmacist what vitamins, which were located next to the pharmacy station I should take and he said that he legally could not suggest for me to take any of them! So you see that just because someone says that there isn't a cure, it doesn't mean that there isn't a cure! Thank God that I did not listen to these "experts!"

I did my own studying and I found out that there are a small amount of people teaching how to get rid of OCD for good. Not just people like me with no "credentials" but doctors and therapists. Not all doctors are the same and not all therapists are the same. Some are the "renegades" so to speak and actually think for themselves.

These people have been working to help people with anxiety and OCD without using medicine unless absolutely necessary and they teach that it can be cured! You likely won't find them very easily and that's ok. The fact that you have read this article shows me that you are serious about getting rid of your OCD for good. I congratulate you for taking this initiative to do something about your condition.

I know that if you think for yourself and stick to the teaching of us, the "renegades" so to speak, you will realize just how curable OCD really is! I'm living proof! So do your due diligence, dig around and find information that you can connect with and find someone who will show you the way!

Compulsive Disorder - Is OCD Curable?

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder And Eating Disorders

If you are a parent, or another adult that cares for or works with teenagers, it is important that you learn about the teenage relationship dangers of alcohol abuse. In a recent study conducted by both medical professionals and law enforcement personnel across the country, it has been established that teens choose to indulge in alcohol more than any other drug available today. In most cases of alcohol abuse among teenagers, those that participated in this type of activity did so as a result of pressure from a friend, or the person that they were involved in a relationship with. This is why I deem alcohol abuse as a one of the teenage relationship dangers that adults should be concerned with.

1. When a teen indulges in the consumption of alcohol, it places them in a position in which they are more likely to indulge in other drugs. The experimentation may include the abuse of over-the-counter medications, prescription medications, and even illegal street drugs. Many professionals refer to alcohol as a "gateway drug" because it seems to open up other types of substance abuse. If a teen is involved in a relationship where their partner is using alcohol, it is likely that they will be more prone to indulging in use. In addition to this, other complications may arise such as physical and emotional abuse.

2. When a teenage couple engages in drinking activities, and they are of driving age, it greatly enhances the chance that they will become involved in a vehicular accident. When it comes to teenagers, alcohol related injuries sustained in car accidents are considered to be the number one cause of death. It is important to ensure that if your teenager is around other teenagers that drink, whether through the means of a relationship, or just a friendship, that you make every attempt to get the friend help. It could just save their lives.

3. Teenagers that are involved in a relationship where alcohol abuse is occurring could result in other types of injuries and even fatalities. Many may attempt to swim and drown. Many may engage in "dares" that can hurt them. In addition to this, depression may occur. This can result in suicide, and in some instances, even homicide. Seeing that the teenager's judgment is still developing, adding alcohol to the mix can result in many complications.

4. It has been found that teenagers that indulge in alcohol consumption are more likely to engage in unprotected sexual activities and intercourse. Naturally, this can lead to teenage pregnancy and even sexually transmitted diseases. These areas of concern are considered to be teenage relationship dangers for the simple fact that diseases can kill and even having a child too early can result in many health complications for the mother as well as the child.

5. Teenage relationship dangers when it comes to alcohol include sexual assault and date rape. Naturally, this type of situation can result in life long mental, physical, and emotional effects.

If you have teenagers, or work with them, it is important to learn all that you can regarding the teenage relationship dangers - especially those related to alcohol abuse.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Foundation

With mobiles phones, the obsession with miniaturization and eye-catching design is most prevalent in Asia. Walk along any crowded street in Asia today and you will find hands sprouting a mind-boggling array of mobile phones of all shapes, sizes, colors, and features.

Form factor

For more than a decade, the only shape available was the traditional bar form (like the Siemens SL45), an extension of the common cordless house phone. The introduction of the clamshell form in the early 90s gave consumers a different choice. Today, the majority of mobile phones sold in Asia are bar and clamshell phones, with the former being more popular in most countries except for China, Japan and Korea, where clamshells are the preferred shape.

In 1998, Siemens created one of the world's first slider mobile phone, a radical departure from the usual shape. Based on a "peek-a-boo" premise where the keypad is hidden away, giving the phone a mysterious appearance, the SL10 aroused consumers' interest with its fascinating design. In fact, the different mobile phone designs appeal to different personalities. A common bar shape is popular amongst business executives, whereas those in creative fields such as design and advertising tend towards the more flashy slider form.

Features and Design

Where before, mobile phone companies offered just one design, look and color, modern consumers are now faced with a staggering array of choices, ranging from changeable and customized covers, to mono- and polyphonic ringtones. There are also hybrid PDA phones that combine the portability of a wireless telephone with the convenience of scheduling, calendar and PIM functions for mobile road warriors.

A very common feature for mobile phones today is color display. In fact, 41 percent of all phones sold in Hong Kong today come with a color display of some sort. In China, phones with a 4,096-colour screen are the norm. In fact Siemens paved the way for phones of the future by being one of the first mobile phone companies to introduce color display into its mobile phone with the S10 in 1997. Without a doubt, it was a milestone - just five years prior to the introduction of the S10, monochrome screens were the only phones available in the market.

This phenomenal growth is due to the rapid development of mobile phone technology. As a result, manufacturers and designers have the freedom and opportunity to dream up unusual and sometimes, even astoundingly beautiful designs.

Paya Lebar Social Media Obsession

Addiction is a major issue in the present age. From adults to teenagers and specially students everyone is addicted to wither alcohol, drugs, cigarette or more. In Paya Lebar does not just stop here because there are other types of addictions as well like pornography and sugar obsession. The real question is how to we control these addictions and protect our youth from ruining their future.

There is a need of addiction therapy in Paya Lebar because that is the only way we can save the society. Addiction basically is something that one should avoid because the consequences of being an addict are the same in all types of addictions. People normally do not take it seriously, but once they get caught in some kind of problem, they realize how it affected their lives in a very bad way. So, whether you are suffering from addiction or substance abuse, you have to get away from it as early as possible.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Treatment

Substance Abuse Prevention Programs

Alcohol abuse can have very serious health effects on an individual. Prolonged alcohol abuse can do very serious damage to a person's liver. If alcohol abuse goes unchecked for a long enough period of time, it can actually lead to a person's death. It is important for anyone struggling with an addiction to alcohol to find a quality alcohol detox rehab program. Without the help of medical intervention, it is very unlikely that a person will be able to overcome their addiction to alcohol.

Alcohol

There are many different types of alcoholic beverages that individuals can abuse. Liquor, wine and beer are all available in many stores and restaurants around the country. Alcohol is legal, cheap and readily available to people who are over the age of 21. Even though the drinking age is 21, many people start drinking much earlier than that. In fact, most high school students experiment with alcohol at some point during their high school years. This is very dangerous as it can lead to addiction. Alcohol should only be consumed by individuals who are above the legal drinking age.

Abuse

Alcohol abuse can have very damaging side effects on an individual's liver. By going through a medical detox process, a person will be able to salvage their liver before permanent damage is done. Without a functioning liver, a person will not be able to live for very long. The liver is responsible for detoxification, protein synthesis and producing certain chemicals that are needed for proper digestion.

Liver

If moderation or abstinence is maintained then it is not believed to lead to further liver complications. However, if drinking continues then it will only get worse and can lead to death. Fatty liver happens after acute alcohol ingestion, it is the accumulation of large vacuoles of triglyceride fat on liver cells caused by steatosis. If drinking is curtailed then fatty liver can actually be reversed.

Hepatitis

A small percentage of heavy drinkers will develop alcoholic hepatitis. It's important to note that the damage caused by excessive drinking can be reversed if drinking is stopped or moderation ensues. If alcohol continues to be abused there is a fifty percent mortality rate for alcoholic hepatitis. Alcoholic Hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver due to alcohol. This is normally diagnosed by a liver biopsy following common signs of the issue such as a swollen liver, nausea, vomiting, fever and abdominal pain.

Developing Cirrhosis

The survival rate for the advanced stages of cirrhosis is not very good. Cirrhosis of the liver is the most serious and final form of alcohol liver disease. It is the cause of many deaths and series illnesses. Cirrhosis is when the cells of the liver are so damaged because of alcohol that they cannot repair themselves. As the live cells die off scar tissue I formed. Once the scar tissue builds up, blood can no longer flow through the liver the way it should. There is not cure for cirrhosis; once the liver cells are damaged they cannot be repaired.

How it can help with the treatment of patients so they will not get addicted again? Having friends and family, and even if you are the doctor of such a patient who is going through the addiction, you should help him in a simple way. Even simple exercising can help them get out of it because they will use their energies in something positive. Do you feel like you have to wash your car all the time?

Do you have a fear that if you don't wash your car that people will think less of you. Do you do it to the point where it makes you miserable but you do it anyway? If you do, you have OCD my friend.

There is no need to worry though. Here's why. It's great to have a clean car. After you have cleaned the car, tell yourself out loud, "I have cleaned my car and I am not going to do it again for a week!"

This may be really hard for you, since I know how it is because I used to wash my car almost every day.

I want to be the first to say that there is no shame in wanting a beautiful car, I know I do. But when it comes to the point where it is interrupting your daily functioning in life or to the point where you are doing it out of fear because you think that something bad could happen, then this is OCD and you need to stop or limit yourself.

The best thing for you to do is get it done by someone else only once a week and find a passion that you can focus on. Remember that anything in excess in nature is bad and washing your car too often will wear out the paint and waste a lot of your time.

Take action: The next time that you feel like you have to do your car when you know it's clean, ignore the impulse and tell yourself that you don't want to damage the paint or waste your time.

Smoking cessation is also a big task like any other type of addiction, so you have to majorly help the patient in it and never discourage them from getting away from addiction. You can even help them with simple words that motivate them towards the positive and leave addiction, which is in all cases a negative thing to practice. Obsessive Compulsive Spectrum Disorder
